Following Gerard up onto the big porch of the several-story house, Angel leaned against him, "yeah, I know. It's really going to suck. You know I prefer to do it myself." Angel "hmph'd" slightly, but was still relatively upbeat. Looking up at Gerard, Angel nodded. 15 more? That was several. Oh well, she could handle it...she thought. She couldn't imagine Gerard working his twenty or so horses, and still helping the younger hands with the yearlings - he really was her Superman, even in little ways like that. Following Gerard's eyes, she looked across the acres and acres that once made the stableyard seem so big, trees were flattened, barn's roofs ripped off; although the damage was pretty bad, luckily, the horses were safe, and all of the hands were perfectly fine. Angel sighed slightly, looking up at Gerard, "When do you think we should tell Sasha?" There was no "do you think we should" it was obvious that their boss would have to know that a) one of her exercise riders and back-up stable managers was pregnant and b) that she and Gerard were getting married.

I know, I think it would drive me crazy to have to do all my work that way. My list got so big, I'm going to have to delegate too, though. Gerard looked over the land with Angel for a moment. Unfortunately, Sasha hadn't had much time to clear away trees and such before building the new barns. The things that needed to be cleared had been, and the barns had started going up almost immediately. Ever since the hurricane, the humane society and adoption center had been keeping horses in the few stalls they had and putting up round pens and pastures. When the hurricane had hit, many had left Paradise City, leaving their animals behind. The organizations didn't have nearly enough room for such an upswell, and had turned to Sasha to help them out. Gerard wiped his feet quickly before opening the door for Angel. Once inside, he took off his riding boots and left them on the mat next to the door. He thought about her question as he waited for Angel to come inside. Once she did, he closed the door. I dunno. After we get a ring for you, probably... he trailed off as the two headed upstairs to their bedroom. [/sub]

Angel nodded, still thinking about Sol-Leks, the adorable little paint colt, and the barrenness of the pastures after the hurricane. Where Angel grew up, it wasn't the hurricanes, earthquakes, or wildfires. It was tornadoes - twisters. And flooding. A wicked twister could come running through the area, although the area might just be two miles by six miles, everything in that area would be completely flattened. Angel couldn't be more proud of the stable she called home - taking in all of the abandoned horses, rehabilitating them, and truly helping them.
Angel kicked off her riding boots, leaving her Prince of Wales spurs on. Following Gerard up the stairs, and into their bedroom, she laid across the bed, instead of with her head on the pillows. Rolling over on her stomach, she looked out the window at the setting sun. Angel looked over her shoulder, and patted the bed next to her. "Come here. We haven't been able to just be with each other in the last week or so - since the storm." [/center]

Gerard couldn't stop thinking about Sasha's phone call. It was hard to keep a straight face. But he wouldn't say anything, not until things were confirmed with Sasha. He took a second to calm down before laying on the bed next to Angel. I know. It's been chaotic. But I can't wait until the new horses get here, to start working with them. He grinned, looking out one of the windows in their room at the sunset. Gerard was glad Angel had moved from her room to his, even if it could be a little cramped with all of the stuff they had. He sighed deeply, relaxing comfortably into the mattress.

Angel rolled over to face Gerard, raising a single eyebrow at him in a questioning manner; he appeared to be acting just slightly odd. She really couldn't pinpoint what was making her suspicious, but something was. Angel shook it off just a little, figuring it was just her own mind making her question him. She grinned, and draped her arm around Gerard's waist, leaning her face into his chest. "I can't wait either, I love the feeling you get when they really realize that a person is going to help them, and not abandon them." Although some of the horses they were getting had just been left, and never really abused, as they were gotten to so soon, there were a few "broken" ones in the bunch. Those, the abused or mistrustful horses, were the ones that Angel loved to work with, because once it "clicked" for them, that a human wasn't going to hurt them, they were the most trusting, sweetest horses she had ever worked with. For just a moment, Angel changed the subject, "I love you," Angel pulled her head back, looking up at Gerard and grinning. "I still can't believe it," she rolled back onto her back, looking up at the ceiling. [/center]

Gerard smiled and nodded. I know. It's one of the best things in the world. He rolled on his back as she did. It seemed to him that Angel was acting strangely. Maybe she was suspicious? He'd have to play it cooler. He closed his eyes for a moment, resting his hands on his stomach. I love you too. I can't believe it either, he told her with a smile. I certainly wasn't planning on doing that tonight, but I'm sure glad I did. And I'm happy about the baby too. He marveled at the idea. So much could change in the course of a day. Gerard looked back up at the ceiling and yawned. Long day, he said softly. [/sub]

Angel laughed quietly, just a tiny hint of bitterness to it. "I'm glad you did, not only because, well, I was hoping you would eventually," she giggled again, this time happier, "but because I really didn't know how to break the news of the baby to you." Angel smiled sheepishly at Gerard, she had been absolutely terrified of telling him about her pregnancy. She wasn't so much scared of his reaction, but of how she could bring it up. Angel moved so that her head was laying in the crook between his neck and his shoulder, her neck over his arm. Yawning almost involuntarily after Gerard, Angel arched her back, stretching out, her eyes fluttering shut for a moment. "Definitely," Angel was fully content, right here, with her fiancé, looking up at the ceiling of their room, knowing that they were to be married, and that in a short eight months, they would have a little one, as well. Gerard chuckled softly. I don't know how you would have, either, he said. I don't think I could have done it, if I were you. I'd have been running around like a chicken with my head off. He pulled Angel to him tightly as she snuggled up into him. I'm going to be so much tired once those new horses get in. Good thing I got a new computer. He glanced over to the desk where his new tablet laptop sat. This would make things much easier when he was training and instructing. The tablet allowed him not only to type up notes, but to flip the screen and write notes with a stylus as well. It would make things easier on him. His eyes began to droop closed, and he yawned again. [/sub]

Angel sighed contentedly as Gerard pulled her tight against him. "I'm sure you will be," Angel said, brushing Gerard's bangs out of his face, and sitting up just enough to kiss him lightly on the cheek. Noticing that his eyelids were drooping, she nudged him lightly with her shoulder. "Darling, go to bed." Angel kissed Gerard's cheek again, and rolled off the bed, standing up and walking to their dresser, picking up a tee shirt of Gerard's, and a pair of her Soffee shorts, changing relatively quickly. Gerard looked up at Angel as she kissed him. Okay. he mumbled, rolling himself off the bed tiredly. He slowly pulled off his socks, his jeans, and his shirt and threw them in a pile near the closet. He stumbled to the dresser, then pulled an old t-shirt and basketball shorts out. Gerard put them on as he walked over to the bed, then collapsed face down. He yawned, but was otherwise unmoving as he lay on top of the covers.

Angel flicked the switch once Gerard had landed back on the bed, making her way back over to his soft bed. She gently tugged the covers out from under him, and slid under, pulling them back up over her shoulder and over Gerard. Angel curled up next to Gerard, her left hand resting on her stomach, still marveling at how well Gerard had handled the news of their baby. Angel closed her eyes, letting Gerard's steady breathing and comforting smell drift her into a half-sleep. Yawning widely, Angel rubbed the side of her face on her pillow, and pulled the comforter farther up by her chin, her eyes fluttering closed, finally. Before she drifted to sleep, her left hand found Gerard's, and rested on top of it.
