Riley was standing outside of one of the temporary barns Kingwood had had to construct. After the hurricane, most of the humane society and adoption center had been destroyed, and the two organizations had turned to Sasha. Though the farm had been dealt a decent amount of damage, they had the most available space, and Sasha was a known rescuer. Even before the hurricane, she'd rescued horses on her own, taking them in and training them with hopes of finding them a forever home. Thankfully, most of the damage to the stables had been minor, and they'd been able to build up new barns quickly. The humane society and adoption center had been keeping the horses in quickly assembled pastures on their land, but today, the horses finally got to move to a real home. Riley looked around for Kasi, who was supposed to be helping him out. Sasha was currently ensuring that everything was in place for the newcomers, and would also be getting in several shipments today. The majority of the other residents were training today, so she'd put Riley and Kasi in charge. He glanced down at his watch. The first trailer should be arriving in 15 minutes. Where was she?

Kasi ran up pulling her now longish hair into a ponytail as she pulled up beside Riley. "New shipment in today right? How many?" she asked putting her hand on his shoulder to balance herself while she fixed her shoes. "Damn." she said to herself as she knelt down to tie her shoe. As she bent down her hair came undone because her hair tie snapped. Today is just not my day as she fell over onto her butt. She finished tying her shoe and was about to get up when a truck and trailer pulled in. Kasi grabbed Riley's hand so he would help her up so they could go investigate the new arrivals together.

Riley saw her hair tie snap, and reached into his pocket. One thing he'd learned by spending time with Kasi was that her thick hair often caused the destruction of many hair ties. He quickly handed her one as he saw a truck and trailer approach. The last count I heard was about 130. That's why those barns have been going up. He gestured to the new barns. Sasha told me that she organized it so they'll come in by how they're supposed to go into the barns. The people in the trucks are supposed to have information sheets for all the horses that'll go up on the door of their stall. The first part of the list is for the yearling barn, he said, showing her the list.

I can't wait to see them, he grinned.

"Me either!!" she said smiling broadly. She took his wrist and marched over to where the truck parked. "I'll go grab some leads?" Kasi questioned wandering off before he even answered. She quickly jogged over to the main barn and grabbed four leads. That way each of them could deal with two yearlings at once. She hoped to start working with them right away...

Riley laughed, Kasi could be so sporadic sometimes, constantly jumping from thing to thing. The truck had backed in and been shut off. Inside, the sounds of anxious hooves against the metal could be heard. Two people got out of the truck and handed Riley the papers. These ones are going in the yearling barn, over there, he pointed. As the two opened the gates to the trailer, he shuffled the sheets he'd been given. He pulled those of the first two out for Kasi, Jaffari and Hank Jr, a palomino paint and a bay respectively. As he shuffled through the stack again, he frowned. Where's Tiny Teddie Bear, the mini foal? He asked, holding up the paper. As he asked, a third hand stepped out of the truck, carrying a tiny foal in her arms. You'll follow us to the barn, as soon as Kasi gets back. We have a special stall for him. He looked around for Kasi. [/sub]

Kasi saw Riley looking for her and ran back to the truck. "Hey boss man." she clipped the leads on the two horses he indicated. But was distracted by the mini. "What a cutie!" she said smiling. Hank Jr. pulled on his lead a bit eagar to get moving so Kasi started walking him and Jaffari back to the yearling barn.

Riley folded the papers and stuck them in his pocket. The next two, Beaute and Superstitious Satisfaction, were his. One of the hands had grabbed a lead and clipped it on Beaute, so Riley clipped his lead on Super. The hand gave Riley the lead to Beaute and he started off towards the yearling barn, with the mini following behind in the arms of the third band. The two horses looked around eagerly, anxiously. Riley let them take it slow to examine things. Thankfully, these two weren't too distracted and he was able to get them back to the yearling barn at a pretty good pace. He let the older Super into a stall first, quickly unclipping the lead and shutting the door before Beaute could get in. Riley then let Beaute into the stall next to Super's and closed the door. He pulled the papers and the masking tape he'd been carrying out of his pockets and stuck them on the doors. Once finished, he looked around to see where Kasi had put hers so he could do the same.

Kasi put Jaffari and Hank Jr right across from Riley's horses. "Don't forget about Teddie!" she reminded him before leading the way out of the yearling barn. "Any more trucks today?"

Riley quickly put up the papers on their stalls before directing the hand to Teddie's stall. He put the paper up there too before jogging after Kasi. They had 3 more left in this load, then another trailer would come in. Yeah, they're bringing them all in today. They've just been waiting for the barns to be up and ready, and now that they are, they're getting them out of their facilities. They've been having a hell of a time trying to house them all, he said as the approached the trailer once more. He looked down at the papers. I"ll take Mayonet's Danger, you get the other two. Riley approached the pale yearling. It had said on the paper that he could be difficult time; he would rather him wrestle with the youngster than Kasi.

Kasi clipped the leads on the other two yearlings and made sure that Riley had a handle on his. She walked off talking to her horses, hoping to get a drink of water before the next truck came in. "Riley! Do you want a drink? I'm gonna grab one before the next truck comes in." she said loudly, turning back to face him. She almost start walking back to him but figured that if he didn't hear her she would ask him when they both got to the barn. Kasi turned back around with a cluck of her tongue to the yearlings and lead them right next to her others inside the barn.

Riley clipped a lead to the fillies' halter and led her out the trailer. The hands quickly closed and locked the doors on the trailer before hopping into the truck and driving back in the direction of one of the shelters. The two organizations had been helping each other out, each having an eight horse trailer and a two horse trailer. They were only using the eight horse trailers today though, given the amount of horses they were bringing in. The next one should be here any minute. He tugged at Danger's lead, managing to get her through the main barn without much trouble; she only tried to grab at hay as she passed by. When they passed by Sol-Leks' round pen, however, she tossed her head up and dug her feet in the ground, stubbornly refusing to go further. Danger tried to get closer to the stallions' pen, but Riley continued to pull her in the direction of the yearling barn. She tried to rear up, but Riley pulled her back down quickly. Finally, with a little buck, she let Riley pull her onward. He put her into an empty stall with a sigh, shut the door, and put up the papers on all the stalls. He pulled out the list he'd been given and crossed off the yearlings, then circled the next eight. The next chunk we're getting are pregnant mares, going to the breeding barn. There's a lot of them, Riley folded up the list, so that only the next ones coming showed.

"Sounds good. Should we take them one at a time?" Kasi asked as she trotted up next to Riley. She tightened up her ponytail, looking at the list over his shoulder. "Wow, that is quite a few...eight...?" She said counting quickly. "Are they all they all due around the same time because that's gonna be a lot of foals at once to train and take care of..." she continued, looking from the sheet to Riley's face.

Riley lookecd down at Kasi as she caught up. Yeah, they can be kinda testy sometimes. He continued on towards the main barn, where the next trailer of horses would be coming in. I don't know when they're due, but we're gonna be getting extra help for training and care. Oh, and that's not all of them. I think we have almost twenty coming in. Keep in mind, they're from different barns that thought their horses were gone, swept away by the storm. And those barns had breeding programs. So we're gonna have plenty to look forward to. He grabbed the water he'd stashed away earlier this morning and sat down on a bale of hay near the entrance of the main barn, looking out on the road to see if the next trailer was coming yet.

"Cool!" Kasi said enthusiastically. "I gotta go grab a water, are you gonna need another one?" she asked quickly turning toward the guest house before the truck and trailer came.

Yeah, he shouted after her. Riley looked back down at the list, unfolding it again. Once the foals came, they would have at least twice the work they had before. Hopefully, the community would be rebuilt quickly and horses would start getting adopted out. He knew Sasha would be advertising the horses on her website, so some might even go out of state. That would mean a lot of work for either Sasha or the adoption organizations, but it would be worth it. Riley snapped out of his thoughts and saw a trailer turning onto the drive. Soon the trailer would be parked, the doors would be down, and the fun would begin. He had a bad feeling about all these pregnant mares. They'd already endured a lot of trauma, what with the hurricane, being rescued, and being moved to the adoption facilities. Now they were being moved again. The poor girls would probably be out of their heads with the nerves. The trailer got closer, and he looked around for Kasi. [/sub]

Kasi sprinted to the guest house, relieved that there was some air conditioning. Grabbing two water bottles, she jogged backed out of the house. She saw the truck and trailer coming around the bend and kicked up another notch, running to the pregnant mares barn to drop off the waters. She took a sip of one the waters, and then ran quickly to the truck. Riley popped up out of no where, she ended up on his chest. "Crap!" Kasi said and her hair came undone again.

Riley chuckled as Kasi ran into his chest. Woah there, sweet thing, he laughed. You gotta get that hair under control, girl, Riley said as he handed her another hair tie. He'd had a feeling he would need a few of them today. The trailer had backed up to them and the truck shut off, and more hands came to hand him papers and unlock the doors. Remember, one at a time with these girls. They're probably gonna be a little freaked. Riley folded the papers and tucked them into his pocket. The first two out would be Black Ashes and Hot Flash. One of the hands clipped a lead on Ashes, a bay, and handed it to Kasi, leaving Flash to Riley. The poor painted mare had worked herself up into quite a lather, and practically jumped out of the trailer. This is gonna be fun, he murmured.
