Yes. It's beautiful here. I love it. Kasi said happily, looking at all the horses that surrounded them, just in this barn.

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself, Sasha said with a smile. She looked down at her list once more, making sure that all horses were accounted for. i think today I'm just going to let you train the yearlings and foals to halter. You see, here, we let the young ones out to pasture after we wean them from their mums. That way, they don't get so lonely. Plus, since we usually exercise them together, they get used to each other more. Because we're such a large facility, sometimes horses get upset when they meet new ones, and then it's a fiasco... She trailed off, shaking her head. Sasha then handed them a sheet of paper, saying, Anyways, here's the list of horses I'll need you to work with.
Sneak Peek A Different Golden Wind Perfect Breeze Stylish Kiss Miss Murder Luxurious Daddy's Little Princess Roaring Ashes High Tide Moon's Saga Lovely Skies Black Blood Fiery Eyes Cold As Ice Nia Illusion Jazzy Boy Pure Speed Phantom Star Cole Poprocks & Coke Desert Rum Free Ace Little Ace Devil's Blood Fire Storm Isra Al-Sham
You'll have to round them up from the yearling pasture, and put them into the yearling barn. They've got name plaques on the stalls. Next to each plaque I've posted a picture. If you have any questions, just feel free to ask.

Okay. Kasi said heading toward the pastures with Riley. Where do you want us to go when were done? she asked, turning towards Sasha again.

When you're done, you can go up to the house and check out the available rooms and pick yours out. Maybe tonight you could move your stuff in, if you want. Sasha tapped her pen against her lip, before looking down at her clipboard. Whoops, I have to get going or I'm never going to get through all these guys. I'll see you later!
Riley followed Kasi outside to the yearling pasture. Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as big as the one they used for the mustangs. It was just big enough for all the yearlings to fit comfortably. As soon as they got to the gate, Riley face-palmed himself. Wow, we're brilliant. He said, walking back towards the barns. We forgot to get lead ropes. Thankfully, all the yearlings had been loosed with their halters on. He walked into the yearling barn and looked around briefly, finding a ring with several lead lines clipped to it. He unclipped two for himself; if the yearlings were well-behaved enough, they would be able to speed things up by taking in two at a time.

Kasi laughed at Riley's comment and asked him Should I stay here and sort them as you bring them to me? I think that will work better! She smiled at him and waited for an answer looking around at the names and photos.

Sure, why not? Riley left the list with her on a hay bale as she looked around at the nameplates and pictures of the yearlings. He jogged back out to the pasture, lead ropes in hand, and looked out at the herd of yearlings. Right now, they were pretty peaceful. But how would they react when he got in with them? When they started getting taken out? He had no idea how much, if any, human contact they had. Riley slung one of the leads over the fence next to the gate, and let himself in.
A couple of horses looked up at him briefly, but otherwise went back to their grazing. He quickly caught the closest one to him, who gave him a look of disinterest as he clipped the lead to its halter. Once secure, he jogged the horse back to the fence, took it out the gate, and tied it to the fencepost with a quick release knot. Riley grabbed the second lead and jogged back in, rapidly capturing another horse and jogging it back to the fence. Once both horses were out and the gate was securely shut, he pulled the ends of the leads to release the knot and led them back to the barn, where Kasi was waiting.

Kasi had two more leads ready for Riley when he came with the first two yearlings. Handing the leads to him and taking the horses with her, she quickly spotted the pictures of the two standing beside her. She slid the horses into their stalls made sure the latch was secure, took off the leads and pet them, cooing, until Riley came back with two more. Is this all we have to do? Kasi asked when he came back.

Riley took the leads and quickly jogged back out to the pasture. After catching two more, he brought them to the yearling barn. No, this is what we have to do first. Sasha said she wanted them all brought in first. Riley handed off the horses and grabbed the free leads, making the trek to the pasture and back with the next pair of horses for Kasi.

Okay! Kasi called to Riley over her shoulder as he ran off. She quickly put the new yearlings into the stalls and looked over the list. Hopefully, this would be done quickly, impressing Sasha in the process. Like some sort of strange relay, Riley and Kasi handed off leads (and horses) making quick work of their first assignment. Kasi only felt slightly bad she was making Riley run/walk back and forth so many times.

Before long, they were finished. All the yearlings stood surprisingly calm in their stalls, munching on hay, looking out their stall doors, or rubbing their side up against a wall to itch. Now, she said that we were just supposed to get them used to more human contact and halter training, right? Riley asked, picking up the list from where Kasi had left it. A little over 25 yearlings. He looked at his watch, seeing that it was about 10 am. This would be somewhat of a long job, but he would stay at it until it was finished, or until they couldn't see outside. Sticking his head outside the barn, he saw the round pen wasn't in use. So, I guess we could practice with them there? I mean, they weren't too much trouble, just the usual yearling stuff-stopping, pulling back on the lead, prancing around. If we can start them in there, then maybe tomorrow we'd be able to start taking them around the stable, or a pasture, maybe even in twos if they aren't nipping at each other.

Sounds good! Kasi said grinning. Let's start at the top of the list, whose first? I'll grab 'em for you. I practically know where they are now. she said trying (unsuccessfully) to read over or around Riley's broad shoulders.

Sneak Peek and A Different Golden Wind. Riley read off. He handed the list to Kasi. We'll start off with one each for now, so we can focus more on them. Riley picked up one of the lead ropes he'd set down upon coming in and followed Kasi as she went down the aisle, finding the horses.

Kasi pointed out Sneak Peek for Riley and took a lead for A Different Golden Wind. I always wonder how people pick the names for their horses. Like if they have a significant meaning for them, or what, you know? She took the yearling out of the stall after making sure the lead was on. Kasi held her hand out for Wind to sniff, and pet the horse. Ready? she asked Riley, but Wind answered with a bob of it's head. Kasi laughed, following Riley out to the round pen.

Riley quickly stepped over to the stall Kasi pointed out. He repeated the same ritual she had, and looked up. Some people just think the names sound cool. Many of them come from their parents. I'm sure if we looked around we'd find a Golden something or other. He clucked to his yearling, and lead him out to the round pen. Once he'd opened the gate, he held it open for Kasi to come in.

Kasi walked in, nodded her thanks to Riley for the answer and for holding the gate. I wonder how Sasha does it all. I mean she takes care of all these horses, dogs, workers plus the grounds and the house. It's crazy isn't it?

Yeah. It's pretty amazing. Riley closed the gate and released Sneak. [/b] He waited for Kasi to do the same, and let the yearlings sniff each other out and play for a few minutes. Once they were thoroughly engrossed, he approached the yearlings. Sneak, he called, stepping closer. The yearlings snorted, and darted away. They were having too much fun to stop now. Riley then pulled a piece of carrot out of his pocket, and offered it up. Sneak, he called out again, clucking his tongue.[/center]

Kasi released A Different Golden Wind and watched Riley work for a moment before trying to call to her yearling. Wind, she said focused on the body language of the young horse. Kasi stepped closer to Wind, but to the side to see if she was paying attention. She drew a carrot like Riley and stepped closer to the side. Wind turned to watch Kasi but got distracted by Sneak. Wind, she said softly seeing Wind's ears flick toward the sound of her voice. Kasi laid her hand flat with a piece of the carrot in her palm waiting for Wind to come to her.

After a moment or two, Sneak cut out his antics, intensely interested in the carrot. He quickly trotted over and shoved his nose into Riley's hand, gobbling it up and licking the man's hand afterward. Riley gently grabbed the horse by the halter and lead him around by the bottom of the halter for a few minutes, seeing how the colt reacted to it. Sneak cooperated, except for the occasional butting his head into Riley, looking for more carrots. Riley then released Sneak to play with Wind for a few minutes.

Wind ate the carrot and stayed near Kasi, waiting for more treats. Kasi pet Wind, grabbing the halter. The yearling didn't notice, or didn't care, and responded easily to Kasi's request to walk around the pen. Riley let Sneak go, distracting Wind. Kasi let go and walked toward Riley. Wind didn't seem phased by the halter, or me leading with it. How was Sneak? she asked when she got close enough.

Sneak was fine. Looks like these guys have enough halter training. Maybe we should just work on getting them used to being touched in dangerous or ticklish area? You know, under their bellies, near their heads, their feet? As he spoke, he recaptured Sneak, simply grabbing him by the bottom strap of his halter and leading him away from Wind and Kasi. The yearling reached for grass outside the pen as Riley started out by rubbing his hands over the less sensitive parts: the shoulders, hips, along the withers, both sides of the neck. The colt paid no mind, only switching his tails to rid himself of the occasional fly. When Riley began to rub his hands down farther on his belly, however, the colt picked his head up abruptly. Easy there, Sneak. Riley murmured.
