Devil's Wings and Angel
The large, black Arab-circa stallion pranced uneasily under the light racing saddle and sheepskin saddle pad. Tafiwah, now, Chazie. Angel murmered to the stallion as they neared the starting gate. She sqeezed the large stallion into the confined space and pulled the lever to close the gates. She clicked a stopwatch aroud her neck as she pulled the lever again to open the gates. Her heels dug into the stallion's fleshy sides as he took off. She held him back, saving his speed for the homestreach. As they neared the last three poles, each marking a quarter of a mile, she let loose the reins, the stallion's full potiental showing. As Chazie galloped through the finish line, a snap was taken at the stopwatch. She petted the stallion greatfully. Kanjos, Chazie! 5.3 on the dot! She said heroifically.

A slender figure stood at the rail, watching the pair as they went around Kingwood's practice track. His messy black hair flew up in a gust of wind as he quietly applauded the girl and her horse. Nice, Angel. I'll bring one of mine out her soon and we'll see how well he does. Gerard gave her a smug smile. Unless you'd rather race me with someone else?

Devil's Wings and Angel
The girl rolled her eyes as she dismounted. The stallion snorted and bared his teeth irritablly at the boy. TAFIWAH. Angel whispered harshly, lightly hitting the stallion's muzzle with a cold hand. He's a good racer, but has horrid people skills. He'll attempt to bite anybody but me. She sighed and shook her head, looking back at Gerard. Don't be too sure of yourself, boy. She said, a sly smirk appearing on her lips, shaggy bangs falling into her emerald gaze.

Well, he might be a good racer, but at least my horses don't try to eat people. He shook his head slightly. Let's see here, I think I'll ride Bada Bing. Of course, I'll have to get him warmed up first before we race. Who'll you ride? His head tilted to one side like a curious puppy.

Devil's Wings and Angel
She shook her head. He doesn't try to eat them, he just likes a nibble, he's a very finicky eater. Only guys named Gerard with black hair taste good to him. She said, a grin gracing her lips, stroking the stallion's neck affectionately. I would say Moon, but she's come down with a cough, so I guess I'll ride Chazie here. She sighed, thinking about the Andalusian mix mare, who seemed okay a few days ago, and then came down with a horrid cough. She had to be given supplement once daily for two weeks.

Haha, very funny. Too bad for Moon though. Hope she gets better. He'd been looking out at the track during the last few exchanged sentences, and now looked over to see Angel stroking the stallion. Save some of that for me, he said with a small smile before staring the walk to the stables. I'll be back with Bada Bing.

I'm just halarious. She said as he spoke. Why should I? She asked playfully, kissing Chazie's neck, her eyes drifting in the way of Gerard, a smirk playing on her lips as he walked away. She re-mounted the stallion and began to once again warm up.

Hmph. Once out of sight, Gerard made a mad dash for the stable. He quickly tacked up Bada Bing and trotted him up to the practice track. After letting Bing and himself into the track, he cantered the stud around the track a couple of times before slowing him to the walk. You just about ready, Angel? He called.

Devil's Wings and Angel
She laughed lightly and cantered the stallion, and was still warming up as Gerard came into the track. She watched him and Bada Bing warm up, she nodded as he inquired whether she was ready or not. She cantered Chazie to Bada Bing's side and looked at Gerard, she gave a soft, Latin cue to Chazie and he started a lesuirely trot towards the starting gate. C'mon slow-poke. She taunted, her eyes glinting.

Gerard sent Bada Bing trotting to the gate as well. The stud entered without a problem into the second gate, giving Angel and Chazie the first. Will you do the honors of pulling the lever? He asked, pulling the closing lever at his gate. The gate at Kingwood's practice track was one a nice one, unlike some at other stables Gerard had seen. While each gate had a lever to close it, they were all opened by a single lever that opened any closed gate at the same time. Gerard got into position, ready for the gate to shoot open.

The stallion balked at the starting gate. Angel corrected him and sent him in again, his nose pressed anxiously against the front gate as it closed. Angel nodded, appreciative of the nicer equipment at Kingwood. She clicked the stopwatch that still hung on her neck and quickly switched the lever with a flick of the wrist. The stallion charged forward, only to be restrained by a trained hand, Angel would hold Chazie back until his mighty speed was needed.

As soon as the gate opened, Gerard clapped his heels to Bing's sides and the stallion shot out of the gate. Gerard let go just enough to get him a bit ahead Chazie before reining him in. If he used all his energy now, there'd be none left for the end when Angel would let Chazie go. It was a good thing he knew Angel so well, otherwise he might not stand a chance. She was a pretty awesome jockey and could easily beat anyone. He was a good jockey too who had a considerable amount of wins under his belt, but it didn't hurt to have inside information. The two horses passed the quarter pole and were now coming onto the backstretch. Easy, Bing, Gerard spoke softly into the large chestnut's ear, pulling back on the reins a bit. Let Angel think she was gaining, he thought. They'd save their speed for when it was needed.

A small chuckle rose in Angel's throat, and she tried hard to obtain it, but she could not. She began to giggle softly. Too bad Gerard thought he was getting over on her. The large stallion snorted and attempted to take the bit in his teeth, trying to rear under saddle. As they passed the half-mile pole, Angel was around two lengths ahead of Bing, trying to get Chazie's energy under control. When she finally gave up, letting loose the reins, the stallion bolted. His speed was so uncontrolable that an inexperianced jockey would've fallen off then and there. But Angel knew her capabilites and her horse's. She clapped her heels to his side, might aswell keep 'im goin' as long as she could. The stallion clamped the bit, although Angel did her best to keep it from his teeth, he snapped and continued running. [/blockquote]

Seeing Angel pass him, Gerard gave Bing a bit more rein as the passed the half mile pole. They were almost to the final turn when Angel put Chazie into gear and let him run. Gerard, who was about even with her at the time, decided to let Bing loose as well. The stallion's stride increased greatly as he went around the bend and bounded towards the finish line, coming up quickly on Angel and Chazie.

Angel bent low over Chazie's sweaty neck. Her eyes focused on the finish line. Her mouth dropped open as Bing caught up with them. She dug her heels in further and Chazie continued to bound onward, his teeth caught in the D-Ring snaffle bit. He dug his hooves deeper into the soft dirt track and lowered his head further, his speed increasing a bit. [/blockquote]

As Angel drove Chazie on, Gerard did the same to Bing. C'mon, Bing, almost there! he said into the stallion's ear. As if he understood, the chestnut's head lowered and he took a bit of a lead on Chazie. Thundering hooves filled their ears as the horses and riders neared the finish line, now even with each other once more.

Aww shi.t! Angel growled as Chazie neared the rail to far, her stirrup iron catching on it. She was flipped over the rail, grumbling about the god d.amn horse all the way down into the grass. Chazie ran on, since he was not restrained, he ran as fast as he possibly could, the desire to win still pounding though his veins. Angel landed with a sickening thud in the grass, she stood up as soon as she hit the ground, cussing as she climbed back over the fence, running to get her horse who was acting like a fruitcake. Gerard hadn't heard anything, but looked over to see Chazie riderless. When he looked back, Angel was climbing over the fence, looking fine. He dug his heels into Bing one last time and let him show off his last burst of speed as they closeed in on the finish line. Chazie was still racing, so they might as well finish it.

Angel gumbled something about Chazie not being worth fallin' off all the time as she yanked his reins after both horses crossed the finish line. In a real race, Chazie would've been disqualified, so he might as well had been. She grabbed the reins and playfully glared at Gerard and Bing. She shook her head at Chazie, putting his reins back over his neck and remounting. [/blockquote]

You know, if you counted that, that would be a tie. Gerard pointed out with a smile. Chazie was definitely a great racer and a great match for Bing. And to think they got Bing from a claiming race. He said, his smile widening.
.x.I'll be back soon, I'm gonna eat my breakfast.x.
